A collection of zines exploring the visual language of feminist rage.
As a woman of color, rage is an emotion that I experience all the time. Female presenting people are never allowed to express rage and we’re ridiculed when we do. Rage is such a charged emotion and from a feminist point of view it has the potential to be motivation for systemic change.
I wanted to explore the electricity and angst of rage through photography, color, materiality and writing.
booklet 1: visual essay
A booklet using only images to express feminist rage.
Inspired by Wong Kar-wai’s use of lighting to depict emotion and Petra Collins’ feminist photography I created my own visual language to express feminist rage. The booklet is saddle-stitched and printed on 9 x 12 in. newsprint referencing the physicality of early feminist publications and riot grrrl culture.

booklet 2: interview
A booklet featuring an interview I conducted with an expert about feminist rage.
I interviewed art historian and professor Dr. Kim Bobier to get her take on the complexity of feminist rage. Her gentle yet determined demeanor inspired the subdued expression of rage throughout the zine. The booklet is saddle-stitched and printed on 6 x 9 in. textured grey paper.
“There’s this idea that we should always be disinterested, neutral objective beings without any kind of desires or distinctive interest which does not really explain much of what goes on in society.”

booklet 3: compilation art book
An art book compiling all of my research and design about feminist rage.
This 9 x 12 in. photo book ultimately displays that feminist rage is an explosive and beautiful emotion. I experimented with materials such as colored tracing paper, acetate and photo paper to explore the plasticity of femininity.
This book is perfect bound and all photography and writing is original.
“The box that the patriarchy pushes me into is extremely claustrophobic and feminist rage is bursting me out.”
